Children's Ministry
Journey Kids is a special worship service for elementary-age children. We want kids to understand that faith is a journey, and that the choices that they make ultimately decide the direction of their life. It is our greatest desire that they are encouraged, educated, and empowered to make choices that lead to abundant life! We are pleased to offer separate Sunday services for kids K-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade. This split makes it possible for us to make our worship times age appropriate and for the kids to really dig into what they're learning and apply it to their lives. Our Journey Kids service is designed to effectively communicate God's Word through music, stories, interactive media, games, drama, crazy characters, and much more! Journey Kids meets on Sunday mornings during both the 8:00 AM and 10:15 AM services.
Highpoint is our Wednesday night ministry to K-4th graders. It is truly a program that flies high above the rest! As soon as the kids arrive they board our plane (don't worry, it's permanently grounded!) and take off for a new destination. Each month we travel to a different country and learn what it can teach us about the Bible. Each destination is coupled with a different character trait and Bible character. Most recently we traveled to Mount McKinley and learned about overcoming disappointment. We journeyed through the life of Joseph and studied how he was able to overcome great disappointment in his life. Our Wednesday night programs offer kids an awesome opportunity to study the Bible and connect with their peers. Each time we meet the kids have the opportunity to meet in a small group according to their grade. In their small groups they apply the lesson to their own lives, pray together, and make friends! It's our desire to see kids of all ages connecting weekly with God, teachers, and one another. As they do, we believe kids' lives will be changed and they will grow spiritually as God touches their minds, hearts and lives.
Foundations and Transitions is a ministry specifically designed for 5th grade students. This is a transitional age group, which builds a bridge from Journey Kids to our Middle School ministry. Each Wednesday night meeting includes a time of teaching, fun activities and personal interaction. Through this one year class, 5th graders review the foundations of their faith and prepare for the transition into middle school by learning about God-esteem and how to handle themselves in interpersonal relationships. Perhaps one of the most special things about this class is the fact that it is taught by our awesome senior pastor, James Weaver!
Junior Bible Quiz offers a fun and exciting way to motivate children to understand the all-important truths in God's Word. This program is available for 3rd to 6th grade students. Children work together on teams to learn and understand the questions and answers from the Bible Fact-Pak. They have monthly quiz meets to compete against teams from other churches from our area. Through the program they will learn Bible verses and facts that will stay with them throughout their lives. JBQ meets Sunday evenings after the song service in the Kids Church area.
Activities take place throughout the year giving kids opportunities for social interaction as well as spiritual development. Some activities include: Kids Camp, 5th grade retreat, our annual Pump It Up party, Missions Munch (a missions banquet just for kids!), Vacation Bible School, Family Fun nights, themed parties, 4th of July parade, and much more!
BGMC is the missions education emphasis for children in the Assemblies of God. Through BGMC funds raised by kids, missionaries can get the supplies they need (such as puppets, Bibles, tracts, literature, computers, etc.) to spread the gospel in their fields of ministry in America and around the world. Each week we receive offerings in Journey Kids for BGMC and throughout the year we host different events to raise funds for this special cause.
